Rick Rypien Found Dead

Rick Rypien was found dead this morning in his home. He had been granted an indefinite leave of absence by the Vancouver Canucks for personal reasons.

Rypien received a six game suspension last season after grabbing a Wild fan as he was leaving the ice for the lock room.

Rypien is the second player from the NHL to die this offseason. Derek Boogard, a former Wild player, also died this offseason.

Make or Break Year for Cam Barker in Edmonton

Last season, Wild defenseman Cam Barker was absolutely terrible. He scored only five points last season. The 2008-2009 50 point outburst with the Chicago Blackhawks seems like a pin in a haystack. He was really bad during the 2009-2010 season with the Blackhawks as well. Barker's contract was bought out by the Minnesota Wild and he signed a 1 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Barker is optimistic that he can return to his 2008 self in Edmonton.

"It's a good, young team, up-and-coming. A great fit," Barker said.

Barker only signed a 1 year deal so he is going to have to play really well if he wants another NHL contract. He will have the chance to prove himself as there is playing time available for him in Edmonton.

Three Wild Games I'm Most Looking Forward To

Here are three Wild games that I am really looking forward to.

Sautrday, October 8th - Blue Jackets. Why am I excited? It's the opener, duh. Got to start the season 1-0!

Sunday, February 19th - Boston Bruins. Okay I'm not the only one who is pumped to watch the Wild take on the defending champs.

Tuesday, October 18th - Pittsburgh Penguins. A couple of things, I think the Penguin mascot is one of the classier mascots in sports. Secondly, I love Sid the Kid and will not pass on the opportunity to watch him.

Go to Ticket King and buy Wild season tickets. They have the best prices and offer the best customer service.

Development Camp at the Xcel Energy Center

Yesterday the Minnesota Wild Development Camp took place at the Xcel Energy Center. The development camp is a camp where players who were drafted by the Wild a long time ago try out for the team and try to become NHL players. There was even a guy ther, Kyle Medvec, who graduated from Vermont this summer, is at his 6th development camp. He probably will never make the team, other wise he wouldn't be at the development camp. There are assistants for the Houston Aeros who are there running the drills while these players play.

The prospect camp is this Saturday and Sunday. That's when the real future members of th eWild will play and show off their skills.

Minnesota wild Sign 1st Round Pick Brodin

Tuesday was Jonas Brodin's 18th birthday. Want a birthday present? I'm not giving you one after you signed that contract with the Wild worth about 2.75 million dollars.

Brodin signed with the Wild Tuesday and the team says they plan on having him for the 2012-2013 season. They said he will stay in Sweden and play for a season and then come over to the United States and try to make the team.

This guy seriously needs to get bigger and is not ready for the NHL. He barely played for his European team, as he saw action in only 42 games and made only four assists with no goals. He also was below 170 pounds. That is inexcusable he is going to get pushed around in the NHL. Hopefully this year in Europe will really help him and he will come to the Wild ready to contribute after this season.

Yo Yo Yo Mike Yeo is the New Wild Coach

What's up everyone?? The Minnesota Wild named Mike Yeo the new head coach of the Minnesota Wild. This should be really exciting. Yeo has absolutely zero head coaching experience and barely played in the NHL. Here are my thoughts on this.

Okay Wild. So you put me through a horrible, boring long season in which you collapse like LeBron James in the 4th quarter. You have no superstars and are a losing team, therefore there are little reasons for me to go out of my way to pay you to let me watch your lousy team. You decide to fire your coach, that's great. You decide to replace your coach that had little experience and failed because of it with a coach with even less experience!

I'm not rooting against Yeo, but lets be real here. The Wild needed something to energize their fan base and this didn't do it at all. The Timberwolves are catching all the headlines with their crazy antics and the Wild can't even hire a coach whose first and last name aren't even a combined 8 letters. At least hire some crazy European with a cool name to get me interested. This team better be real damn good or else...

That's all for today!

Teams Interested in Former Wild Coach Todd Richards

Former Wild Coach has got interviews with Colombus, Winnipeg for assistant coaching positions. Detroit’s also interested in Richards, while Dallas could be a possibility if Peter Horachek, who used to coach Richards in Orlando, gets the Stars’ coaching job. This is all according to the Startribune. We should expect to see him on someones bench next season. Later in the article, he mentions that he really likes watching the games, but would really like to get back into coaching.

Good luck Todd, even though you were a terrible coach for the Wild and you don't know how to coach a hockey team.

Wild Fans Honor Boogaard

Derek BoogaardMinnesota Wild fans have always held a special place in their hearts for Derek Boogaard. This was apparent through the memorial service organized for Minnesota Wild fans shortly after Boogaard was found dead in his apartment. Fans converged at the arena on Sunday night with candles and memories to honor the fallen fan favorite. Boogaard played for the Wild from 2005-2009. The event drew around 350 fans.

With the 10th Pick, the Minnesota Wild Select...

Sven Baertschi...Sven Baertschi. Who is that you may be asking? Baertschi plays for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League. Sven Baertschi hails from Switzerland and plays left wing. He played in 66 games, notched 34 goals and added 51 assists for 85 points this season. He's 5'10 and weighs 185 lbs. He is just the type of player that the Minnesota Wild need, with a lot of speed, energy, and ability to score.

Minnesota Wild Sign Two College Players

Justin FontaineThe Minnesota Wild signed two collegiate players since the season has concluded. The two players are Chay Genoway and Justin Fontaine. Genoway was the captain of the North Dakota Fighting Sioux and plays defense. Although short in stature, Genoway was a force on the blueline for the Sioux and was one of the best defenseman in the WCHA the last few years. Fontaine was a winger for the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, who won their first National Championship this past season. He was a big scorer for the Bulldogs and knew how to bury the puck. Hopefully both of these guys can prove their worth for the Houston Aeros and make their way to the NHL team down the road.

Todd Richards Fired as Head Coach of the Minnesota Wild

Todd RichardsTodd Richards has been officially relieved of his coaching duties of the Minnesota Wild. He coached the team for 2 seasons, and missed the playoffs both seasons. General Manager Chuck Fletcher must believe the team needs to head in a new direction. I always liked Richards - a Minnesota native who played for the Gophers. However, you can't fire the players and sometimes a change is what's best. I'm eager to see who we can bring in as head coach. Good luck to Mr. Richards in his future endeavors.

Minnesota Wild Defeat Dallas Stars, End Their Season

Minnesota WildThe Minnesota Wild defeated the Dallas Stars for the final game of the 2010-2011 NHL Season. The final score read 5-3. It was a win or go home situation for the Dallas Stars. Had they defeated the Wild, they would had advanced to the playoffs, earning a tiebreaker advantage over the Chicago Blackhawks. However, the Stars could not steal 2 points from the Wild. Although the Blackhawks lost earlier in the day to the Red Wings, they hung out to their playoff chances thanks to the Wild. I'm sure the Blackhawk players are pretty big Minnesota Wild fans today.

Pursuit of Zach Parise?

Zach PariseZach Parise, the golden boy for the New Jersey Devils, will be a free agent this upcoming season. Parise has several Minnesota connections, including playing at Shattuck St.-Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota. His dad, J.P., played for the Minnesota North Stars and coached the team, as well as coached at Shattuck St.-Mary's. Parise is a star in the NHL and will be courted by numerous teams. Can the Minnesota Wild make a push for Parise?

Minnesota Wild Fall to Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver CanucksThe Minnesota Wild were defeated 5-0 by the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, in Vancouver. Ryan Kesler scored a hattrick and Mason Raymond chipped in the other two goals. The loss leaves the Minnesota Wild with 82 points. They play at the Edmonton Oilers tonight, who currently have one of the worst records in the league. Both teams are eliminated from playoff contention, so this one is for pride.

Minnesota Wild Remaining Games

Minnesota WildThe Minnesota Wild have 3 games left for the 2010-2011 NHL Season. Although they are now mathematically eliminated from the postseason, the games are still exciting and entertaining. The Minnesota Wild will face the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars to wrap up the regular season. What a better way to see the Minnesota Wild square off against the Dallas Stars in the season finale.

Minnesota Wild in Pursuit of Stephane De Costa

Stephane De CostaThe Minnesota Wild are in heavy pursuit for Merrimack's Stephane De Costa. The native of Paris, France is a dynamic forward who notched 45 points in 33 games as a sophomore. He is 5'11 and 180 lbs but has great vision and playmaker. It sounds like he is in heavy pursuit from several other teams, so let's hope Chuck Fletcher can lure De Costa here. It would be really fun to see what he can do in a Wild uniform.

Minnesota Wild Drop 2 Games

Nashville PredatorsThe Minnesota Wild lost 2 important games in 2 days, to the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars. On Thursday night, the Wild lost 4-0 to the Nashville Predators. On Friday night, the Wild once again lost 4-0 to the Dallas Stars. These two losses sting, as every game and every 2 points is huge. The Predators jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period against the Wild and never looked back. The Stars scored 3 times in the second period to break open a 1-0 game. The Wild will play at Vancouver on Monday night.
