Minnesota Wild Beat Edmonton

The Minnesota Wild are fast stealing the spotlight of this NHL season.

The season is just over a quarter of the way through, so there is plenty left to play, but it looks as though the Wild may be the team to beat this year.

After the recent meeting with the Edmonton Oilers, the fourth of six meetings between the teams this season, it is apparent that the Wild will have to take it one game at a time, but that they are headed on a victory path. The Wild won the first two games in shootouts before Edmonton won last week at the X. That win broke a 17-game losing streak for Edmonton in Minnesota.

Wild Try to Extend Streak to 17 Over Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are 0-14-2 in the past 16 visits to the Xcel Energy Center. Tonight, the Wild will host the Oilers again.

The Oilers' last two first-round draft b=picks both contributed to a win in the season opener. Can those two younglings tackle a bigger task tonight, a win at the Xcel?

In the three meetings between the two teams last year, the Minnesota Wild outscored the Oilers 12-5. The 16-game stretch is the NHL's second-longest active winning streak by a home team over a visitor. Nashville holds the No. 1 spot with 17 consecutive home victories over Columbus.

The Wild are beginning a three-game homestand tonight.

Let's hope the Minnesota boys can hold it together for another win over the Oilers! Let's start this homestand out right!

Make or Break Year for Cam Barker in Edmonton

Last season, Wild defenseman Cam Barker was absolutely terrible. He scored only five points last season. The 2008-2009 50 point outburst with the Chicago Blackhawks seems like a pin in a haystack. He was really bad during the 2009-2010 season with the Blackhawks as well. Barker's contract was bought out by the Minnesota Wild and he signed a 1 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Barker is optimistic that he can return to his 2008 self in Edmonton.

"It's a good, young team, up-and-coming. A great fit," Barker said.

Barker only signed a 1 year deal so he is going to have to play really well if he wants another NHL contract. He will have the chance to prove himself as there is playing time available for him in Edmonton.

Craig MacTavish Interviews For Head Coaching Job

Craig MacTavish has been interviewed by Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher for the vacant head coaching job. MacTavish was also in the running two years ago when Fletcher went for a younger face, Todd Richards. Craig MacTavish coached the Oilers from 2000 to 2009. He got his master’s degree in business from Queen’s University late last year and he has worked for TSN for the past two seasons.

Minnesota Wild Fall to Vancouver Canucks

The Minnesota Wild were defeated 5-0 by the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, in Vancouver. Ryan Kesler scored a hattrick and Mason Raymond chipped in the other two goals. The loss leaves the Minnesota Wild with 82 points. They play at the Edmonton Oilers tonight, who currently have one of the worst records in the league. Both teams are eliminated from playoff contention, so this one is for pride.

Minnesota Wild Remaining Games

The Minnesota Wild have 3 games left for the 2010-2011 NHL Season. Although they are now mathematically eliminated from the postseason, the games are still exciting and entertaining. The Minnesota Wild will face the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars to wrap up the regular season. What a better way to see the Minnesota Wild square off against the Dallas Stars in the season finale.

Minnesota Wild Halt 8 Game Skid

The Minnesota Wild ended a rough 8 game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues, in St. Louis. Eric Nystrom and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored in regulation for the Minnesota Wild. Mikko Koivu and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored in the shootout to secure the victory. It is a bittersweet victory, since the odds of making the playoffs are virtually 100-1 but at least it stops the 8 game losing streak. Next up is the Edmonton Oilers at the Xcel Energy Center on Thursday night.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild on February 22nd

The Minnesota Wild will host the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, February 22nd. The Edmonton Oilers are struggling this season with a 19-32-8 record, good for 48 points. The Minnesota Wild enter the game with a 31-22-6 record and 68 points on the year. Every point counts in the tight Western Conference playoff race, so two points would be huge. Minnesota Wild On 3 Game Winning Streak

The Minnesota Wild are on an impressive 3 game winning streak with a 4-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, and a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames. The victories at Edmonton and Calgary were at their respective arenas. Anton Khudobin earned a shutout against Vancouver and only gave up 1 goal against Edmonton. Niklas Backstrom returned from injury and showed his top form against the Calgary Flames with a 6-0 victory.

Minnesota Wild Defeat Edmonton Oilers 4-2

The Minnesota Wild defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Thursday night thanks in large part to a 3 goal 1st period. Kyle Brodziak scored twice to open up the period and Guillaume Latendresse added another in the 1st. The Oilers made it interesting in the 3rd period when it was 3-2 until Brent Burns put home an empty-netter from the opposite end of the rink. It was a nice all around game by the Wild and they will now play at Vancouver tonight.

Minnesota Wild Defeat Edmonton Oilers 4-2

The Minnesota Wild won their home opener on Thursday night at the Xcel Energy Center. Mikko Koivu notched 2 goals and an assist. He was the best player on the ice last night and played like an All-Star. Antti Miettinen put the Wild on the board in the first period, on a beautiful Andrew Brunette pass. Koivu scored both goals in the 2nd period to build a 3-2 Wild lead. Minnesota native Matt Cullen scored a powerplay goal from the point in the 3rd period to seal the game at 4-2. Koivu nearly missed an empty-netter for the hat trick. Next up is the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Xcel Energy Center.

Chance at the Playoffs?

The Minnesota Wild have 21 games left and to make it to the playoffs, they need to win every one of them...or at least the majority of them. The Wild know quite well asking for a 21-0 in the last stint of the regular season is not realistic. As of now, the MN Wild are 13th in points in their conference and cannot afford to falter in the next few games against Calgary (tonight at 10 p.m.) and Edmonton. These will be important games to keep building the momentum.

Minnesota Wild Holiday Games Series Go Well...

The Minnesota Wild played 3 home games last week at the Xcel Energy Center. Lots of hometown fans, in St. Paul for the Holidays, came out for Holiday Game Series... The Minnesota Wild Roster did not disappoint.

Although the MN Wild lost their first game last week (a Monday Dec 21 match up against the Colorado Avalanche), they played well and hung on for a final score of 4-3 Avalanche. The rivalry Wild-Avalanche Game was highly anticipated and despite skating well and handling the puck, the Wild just couldn't quite pull off a win

Two days later on Wednesday the Minnesota Wild roster skated against the Oilers, trampling them 3-1 with an easy win... Holiday Hockey Fans enjoyed watching Koivu and Cal Clutterbuck both skate great games

Finally on the Minnesota Wild Holiday Hockey Line-Up was a game against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday Dec 23rd. The Blues came out onto the ice confident and gave the MN Wild a run for their money, but in the end the Wild pulled off a 4-3 win, giving Minnesota Wild fans a very happy holiday!

MN Wild hit the road for a tough series of games

The MN Wild are hitting the road for some tough match-ups that will put the new "up-tempo" hockey style the Wild are playing to the test.

This Friday the MN Wild cross the boarder to play the Edmonton Oilers, then they take on Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Both of these teams have been playing well and the MN Wild are going to have to skate hard if they want to come home with wins.

The Wild roster and coaches will be back in the Twin Cities next week for a huge game against rivals the Colorado Avalanche. MN Wild Fans are eager to play against the Avalanche and are hoping to start the season off with a big win against conference rivals.

Branko Radivojevic is March Wild MVP

If Branko Radivojevic keeps up his current level of play, he gets my nod as the MVP of the Minnesota Wild for the month of March. He continued his hot play with one goal and one assist tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers. He has three goals and two assists in his last six games and the Minnesota Wild has needed every one of them. What is most impressive about this is that he is getting points while primarily called on to be a defensive stopper. If the Minnesota Wild expects to go on a Playoff run, they are going to need continued scoring from roll players like Branko. GO WILD!!!

Northwest Division is tight, Wild need wins

The Northwest Division is so tight that every win (and loss) counts. The Wild have had a rocky go at it, losing in shootouts and Monday night losing BIG TIME to the Edmonton Oilers. The Wild embarrassed themselves and their fans with the 5-2 Oilers loss. The Wild have a chance to redeem themselves tonight on their home ice at7pm. The Wild Oilers match-up should be a hot game!

Wild vs. Oilers

It is the second intermission and watching the Minnesota Wild game has made me want to rip my hair out. While watching the game, a few questions have come to mind:

1) How do you out shoot the Oilers by like 20 shots in the second period and not lead the game?
2) Why does it seem like the opposition goalie always looks like Ken Dryden when they play the Minnesota Wild?
3) Can the Wild actually blow someone out some day?
4) When does Boogaard come back?
5) Does Backstom have to let in one soft goal every game?

All that I can hope is that my favorite team will dominate the third period like they did the second period and actually score a few goals. I am going to go grab a cold beverage and analyze the third period. Losing this game would be a major drag!

Only two Wild home games left this year

Get it? This year…2007. There are only two Minnesota Wild games left in 2007. First up are the Edmonton Oilers at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday December 29th and then to close out 2007, the San Jose Sharks are in St Paul on December 31st. The 5pm puck drop on the 31st gives Minnesota Wild fans plenty of time to ring in the new year right…a hockey game and an after party! Let’s go Wild! Need Minnesota Wild tickets? Wild Season Starts Off Strong

The Minnesota Wild are on a roll that’s for sure. Starting the season 2-0, the Wild are pumped to have one more home game before heading out west on a 4 game road trip that includes a stop in Anaheim to play the Mighty Ducks. The Wild play division rival Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night on their hometown ice at the Xcel Energy Center St Paul.

I was checking a local ticket broker site (since that is usually the only way to get tickets this close to the game) and I see that a Minnesota Wild Tickets site has uppers left for $34 per ticket and lower level center ice for $89 per ticket. Those are some pretty decent prices considering the Wild are hot right now. I know you can pick the tickets up at their little office on West 7th just a block from the Xcel. I did it for the opener and it was super easy.

I know some Minnesotans don’t think highly of ticket brokers, like Ticket King, but seriously if you love sports you have to appreciate that these guys are willing to wait in line for the tickets and to hook up with other sports fans to build an inventory of seats that are available to people that want to go at the last minute. Yeah, sometimes you pay a little more, but they are running a business of convenience and if it wasn’t for them this sports fan wouldn’t be able to go to very many games. Let’s go Wild!

VANCOUVER CANUCKS JUST KEEP WINNING

The Minnesota Wild have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the last month and they still can't catch division leading Vancouver. Last night, Vancouver beat the Edmonton Oilers for their eighth win in their last ten games. The win increased their lead over the idle Minnesota Wild to three points for first place in the Northwest Division. It is unfortunate for the Minnesota Wild that the only team playing as well they are happens to also be leading their division. The Minnesota Wild's only hope is that Vancouver cools off and the Wild can continue its great play and take advantage of their streak of home games. GO WILD!!!
