Had they defeated the Wild, they would had advanced to the playoffs, earning a tiebreaker advantage over the Chicago Blackhawks. However, the Stars could not steal 2 points from the Wild. Although the Blackhawks lost earlier in the day to the Red Wings, they hung out to their playoff chances thanks to the Wild. I'm sure the Blackhawk players are pretty big Minnesota Wild fans today.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard capped a wild night with a breakaway goal with 6 seconds left in overtime as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. It was a back and forth game, with the teams exchanging goals. John Madden scored in the first and Clayton Stoner scored with 4 minutes left in the 3rd period. Anaheim tied it up with 2 minutes left in the 3rd to put it in overtime. Brent Burns found Pierre-Marc Bouchard with 6 seconds left and went 5 hole on Dan Ellis. What a wild game and a fantastic finish.
The Minnesota Wild beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in Chicago on Tuesday night. The Minnesota Wild improved to 14-8-3 on the road this season. After a 2-1 first period lead for the Blackhawks, the Minnesota Wild responded with 3 straight goals coming from Chuck Kobasew, Antti Miettinen, and Pierre-Marc Bouchard. The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-1 on Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center. Marek Zidlicky was the lone goal scorer for the Wild. Troy Brouwer had a goal and assist for the Chicago Blackhawks. Marty Turco had 25 saves after being benched. The game was a sellout at the X and now will host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. So far, the Wild are 4-4-2 for 10 points.
I know that the celebration for the Stanley Cup is long over, but I haven’t had a chance to post lately, so in the name of good sportsmanship (and the fact that my team didn’t even get close) I wanted to congratulate the Chicago Blackhawks on the 2010 Stanley Cup Title. Not only had the Chicago Blackhawks not appeared in the Stanley Cup playoffs in quite some time making the 2010 Stanley Cup that much better for Chicago Blackhawks fans, they also won in game 6 on the road, a rare and challenging feat in Stanley Cup history. So, although it wasn’t the MN Wild… Congratulations Chicago Blackhawks.
