Nick Lidstrom scored in the 3rd period to put the Wings on the board, but minutes later Martin Havlat responded with a breakaway goal from a nice pass by Brent Burns. Niklas Backstrom played brilliantly throughout the game and made an absolutely absurd save in overtime. With the shootout loss, the Wild got a big one point. With 68 points, they join five other teams in the 68-70 point range.

Chicago Blackhawks Best Minnesota Wild, Host Anaheim Ducks Tonight
The Minnesota Wild were defeated by the Chicago Blackhawks in Chicago on Wednesday night. With their head coach in the hospital, the Blackhawks played inspired hockey and beat the Wild in a close game 3-1. Brian Campell put the Blackhawks on the board in the first period and Matt Cullen tied the game in the 3rd period. Troy Brouwer got the game winner before Jake Dowell sealed the game with an empty netter.
On Friday, the Minnesota Wild will host the Anaheim Ducks. The Anaheim Ducks boast one of the top lines in all of hockey: Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry. These two teams have a bit of a history, as the Ducks have knocked out the Wild in two playoff appearances, including the 2003 Western Conference finals. Tyler Cuma Tears ACL at Xcel Energy Center
Some unfortunate news: Minnesota Wild prospect Tyler Cuma sustained yet another injury and setback. Cuma tore his left ACL in a violent collision on the boards. Playing with the Houston Aeros, the team made an appearance at the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday to take on the Peoria Rivermen. He will have to undergo reconstructive surgery and is expected to miss six months. He has had several injuries since being drafted in the 1st round by the Minnesota Wild in 2008, 23rd overall. Here's to hoping for a fast recovery for Tyler Cuma.
Minnesota Wild Defeat St. Louis Blues Back to Back
The Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues on Friday and Saturday night, both great hockey games to watch. On Friday night, the Minnesota Wild stormed back 4 times from a one-goal deficit and beat the Blues 5-4 in a shootout. Martin Havlat forced overtime with a goal with 57 seconds left. After no goals in overtime, the Minnesota Wild won in the 10th round of the shootout, thanks to a John Madden goal. Brent Burns, Mikko Koivu, and Pierre-Marc Bouchard also scored for the Minnesota Wild in the shootout. Cal Clutterbuck scored two goals in regulation.
On Hockey Day Minnesota, or Saturday, the Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-1. The game was energtic and intense, with multiple fights along the way. With the victory, the Minnesota Wild vaulted into 8th place in the Western Conference, in a jam-packed race. Cal Clutterbuck, Antti Miettinen, and Kyle Brodziak scored for the Wild. The win extended the Wild's four game winning streak at home. Also, Clayton Stoner was involved in a fight at the end of the game with Minnesota native David Backes, that looked like an old school boxing match. The St. Louis Blues have several Minnesota connections. David Backes played at Spring Lake Park High School, Erik Johnson played at Holy Angels, and TJ Oshie played at Warroad.

Taylor Pyatt scored his 13th goal of the season in the 3rd period to secure the victory. Niklas Backstrom made 40 saves in the loss and Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves for the shutout. Minnesota Wild Defeat Los Angeles King 1-0 In Shootout
The Minnesota Wild defeated the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 in a shootout. Ironically, the shootout score was also 1-0. Niklas Bakstrom made 3 stops and Pierre Marc-Bouchard scored as the second shooter in the shootout. Both goalies made some great saves in regulation to keep the score 0-0. The overtime also went scoreless. Niklas Backstrom made an amazing save in the shootout against Jack Johnson as he tried to go top shelf with a sprawled out Bakstrom. With the net wide open, Bakstrom threw up his skate and deflected the puck off it. Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves for the Kings. Get your Minnesota Wild tickets with Ticket King!

Minnesota Wild Host Los Angeles Kings
The Minnesota Wild will host the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, February 1 at the Xcel Energy Center. The Los Angeles Kings have some of the best young talent in the NHL with defenseman Drew Doughty and center Anze Kopitar. Doughty was on Team Canada's gold medal winning team last year in Vancouver as a 20 year-old. The Los Angeles Kings are a team on the rise and qualified for the Western Conference playoffs last season. They will be looking to duplicate that feat this season.
