Shutout for the Wild vs. Avalanche

That game was sick last night. Colorado's goalie, Criag Anderson, was going for his fourth shutout game in a row until the Wild sideswiped him. With a bit over 4 minutes in the last period, Martin Havlat slid the puck into the net from a back hand pass from Kyle Brodziak. Havlat was riding down the ice sandwiched between three! guys and still got that perfect handle on the puck to push it in. Anderson never saw it coming, since he had already gone down to the right to block Brodziak. Absolutely stellar. The Wild had played the Red Wings about 24 hours before hand and, with Niklas Backstrom out for a bad back, Josh Harding had to step up to the plate...well, the goal crease anyways. This was a sweet victory for the Wild. Now they'll get a bit of rest before their game tomorrow vs the Sharks.

Here are the highlights of the game... (goal at 2:45ish)

Skills Competition raised $34,446!!!

The Wild's Skills Competition this past weekend raised so much money for the Minnesota Wild foundation and brought in more than 8,000 fans! The foundation's proceeds go to children's medical facilities, education programs and spreading the joy of hockey all across the state, so this is really a great cause. Good job hockey fans! If you missed out on the competition, the highlights are on the Wild's website

On a side note, the Wild's game vs. the Red Wings was intense last night! My friend is in the ROTC through the U of M and was the guy who handed of the hockey stick and flag. It was his first game EVER (crazy...i know) so I'd say he had a great first impression! Wild are playing the Avalanche tonight. I expect you to watch and report back!

Wild vs. Bluejackets

This past Saturday, on Hockey Day Minnesota, the Wild beat the Bluejackets 4-2! If you missed the game, I hope it was because you were up in Hermantown at Hockey Day Minnesota. Too bad it was so slushy up there, but other those fearless players were not about to be stopped by mother nature. Here are a few highlights of the Wild game vs the Bluejackets for those of you fighting the weather up by Duluth.

Hockey Day Minnesota on Saturday!

Hockey Day Minnesota is Saturday and its coming to Hermantown. They couldn't be more excited! Pond hockey tournaments will be held on Lake Nakomis all weekend long, with teams of all ages.

The tournament isn't just for the boys either. The girls are sure to get their fair share of the ice. They crew in charge always tries to schedule the most challenging faceoffs as possible for a real action-packed weekend.

Old rivalries always make for the best entertainment. I grew up playing hockey and outdoor games were always the best! When it gets a little cold for the of-age spectators, there are always tons of bars to warm you hands in (the beer helps, too).

This weekend is looked forward to year after year and Minnesota is the best bet for a quality game of outdoor hockey. I for sure will not be missing out on that.

Don't forget! The Minnesota Wild also play on Saturday night if you can't make it up to Hermantown!

One small step for the Wild...

One big
leap for
Latendresse.

Guillaume Latendresse, at left wing, has become a top scorer for the Minnesota Wild. Latendresse is not the same player he was when he played for the Montreal Canadiens. Latendresse was named the NHL's "Third Star" after scoring a career-high four points in one game and his first career hat trick in another last week. He has come a long way seeing as he had only scored two goals and one assist in the 23 games he was in Montreal. With the Wild, he has scored 13 goals and a total of 19 points. Let's hope that this spark of confidence and skill will rub off on the other Wild players before the season is out! Go Wild!

Wild hopefuly break more than one streak tomorrow

The Wild broke their four game losing streak over Calgary this past Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center, winning 4-1. Even though the Blackhawks creamed the Wild a few days ago, hopefully the Wild players can pull it together to even the score. This would also break the streak of Wiild wins in a row - currently at one.

We all believe in you Wild! As the famous saying from the movie Water Boy goes... "You can do iiit!"

The Wild battle the Chicago Blackhawks tonight

The Minnesota Wild have safely made it to Chicago to play the Blackhawks at 8 pm ET, with guests in tow. The Wild will be spending the next to days in the windy city, along with their fathers and brothers, as a special guest trip which began in 2006.

Soon after the Wild players and their guests arrived at their hotel in Chicago, they made their way to a reception for dinner and a video presentation by the players. In the video presentation, each of the players and coaches talked about how much their guests meant to them and their experiences with them. Nick Schultz, who lost his father last year, is very thankful this father was able to experience him on the road.

This heartfelt presentation meant a lot to the players and their guests, and has pumped them up for the game tonight versus the Chicago Blackhawks.
